Στο κλιπ θα δείτε την ξανθιά παρουσιάστρια του εκκλησιαστικού σταθμού 'Hellenic Heartbeat', Κυρά Vicky, να μας ενημερώνει ότι "Οι υπεύθυνοι αυτής της εκδήλωσης δεν έκαναν την παραμικρή κίνηση, να διακόψουν την παραπληροφόρηση και υβριστική και καθ' όλα προσβλητική ομιλία της ομιλήτριας... εκθέτοντας σε απρόβλεπτο κίνδυνο την μικρή ομιλήτρια."... χωρίς να μας λέει όμως από ποιούς κινδύνευσε.   Θα δείτε και τον φιόγκο με το παπιόν να μαζεύει την σοκαρισμένη σύζυγό του και να κάνει επιδεικτικά τον γύρο της αίθουσας, πριν την κοπανήσει. Και ενώ ο μητροπολίτης Ιάκωβος μαλώνει στο τέλος τον κ. Σταματάκο για την συμπεριφορά του, και λέει στην κοπέλλα "ευχόμεθα να γίνεις μεγάλη επιστήμων", μάθαμε ότι το Πανελλήνιο Ίδρυμα Υποτροφιών έκοψε την υποτροφία της. Αυτό εμείς το λέμε πουστιά!... ξέρει ο Ιάκωβος. Καραγκιόζηδες ε, καραγκιόζηδες! "Κύριε Γιαννακάκο, I'm very disappointed in you!"

 

ΙΔΟΥ Η ΑΠΑΝΤΗΣΙΣ ΣΤΙΣ "ΥΒΡΕΙΣ ΤΗΣ ΠΡΟΜΗΘΕΑΣ"!

Hello everyone. Below, you will find a letter that we were asked to write (μάλλον απ' τον κ. Σταματάκο και την Κυρά Vicky) in order to inform young adults in Chicagoland. You may have already received this through another mailing list. Feel free to forward it to other friends you might want to inform.

Greetings,

We are writing to inform you of an unfortunate event that happened recently in our community. Some of you may have already heard about this or seen it on TV. But for those who haven't, we wanted to send out a letter in order to keep our generation informed and to make you aware of the existence of such evil, so that we may shield ourselves from it in the future.

On January 28, 2007, the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Chicago held its annual "Giorti ton Grammaton" (Celebration of Letters) Banquet at Chateau Ritz in Niles, Illinois. The audience was comprised of mostly Greek School children and their parents. The keynote speaker was Promythea Olympia Kyrene Pithaitha/Pithia (a.k.a. Jasmine Li), a 15 year old girl from Montana, who is allegedly a genius in Math and Science. She was asked to speak on the topic of the Celebration of Letters -- which is a religious holiday celebrating the Greek language, heritage, and the Three Heirarchs. Pithia has absolutely no educational background in History, Theology, or religious studies of any kind.

Without first showing her remarks to anyone, she went up to the podium and proceeded to insult the Greek Orthodox religion, the Greek government, and in turn, the entire audience. She accused the Christian Church and, in particular, the Orthodox Church of committing the "genocide" of millions of Greeks by encouraging the Turkish government to overtake Greece. She accused Orthodox Christians of turning in their own people to the Turks and murdering thousands. She believes Greeks do not exist anymore and that modern Greeks are actually of pure Roman descent. Further, she said that the God that Orthodox Christians worship is merely a Jewish god that Christians took on as their own. She accused the Hellenic Republic of siding with the church and, together, being responsible for the genocide of over 19 million Greeks. These are paraphrases of just a few of the insulting and fictitious points she made in her speech. Why was she allowed to speak in such a way at a Greek Orthodox function? One factor could have been that her speech was written in the "katharevousa" (formal Greek) which can be difficult for some Greeks, let alone Greek-Americans, to understand. Also, she fumbled her words, made grammatical errors, and struggled to pronounce much of her speech. This contributed to the incomprehensible nature of the remarks and lead people to question whether or not she was the true author. Still, a few of the officials sitting at the head table, who completely understood the speech, were noticeably disturbed. However, the speaker was not stopped until several admirable souls from the audience spoke out and begged her to conclude her irrational remarks.

Not only was her speech heretical and an insult to Hellenes, but it was also historically inaccurate; and it was proven so by Archbishop Iakovos in his later remarks. The speaker provided no reliable sources, and she rebutted only with "that is the historical truth" and "the end is really good." This was not an open forum for people to speak on their opinions. She was asked to speak about a religious holiday; but instead, she insulted the Greek Orthodox Christian audience in a sly way and boasted a belief in the Twelve Gods of Mount Olympus (which are essentially mythological characters).

Clearly, her unfounded words deserve no more attention. That is why we have not gone into greater detail regarding her strange demeanor or listed the hundreds of ways in which her speech was inaccurate,** insulting, and flat-out wrong. However, our community needs to be aware of what kind of people are out there; so that in the future, when we organize or even attend events in the Greek community, we can better recognize wrongs and not allow one to speak to our children and our entire community in such an evil manner.

Showing that we will not stand for such unreasonableness is the only way to protect our future.

** Bob and Constance write a lot about something unworthy of their attention. However, it is obvious that they have no idea what Promethea was talking about, as they make no reference to the primary sources she quoted in her speech. These are readily available, but Mr Stamatakos chose instead to phone the expert George ("Only I can analyse the sources, you can't trust one source you need many, it's my job, I've read lots and written lots. It takes years of hard work to be an expert like me. It's all lies, I studied in Germany and can speak Ancient Greek...") Metallinos, who a few years ago sat back and watched a retired 80 year-old General get assaulted by his 'friends' in Thessaloniki, because he dared to ask a question George didn't like. Further answers came from Mr Babiniotis, another expert, who makes reference to "εξ αποκαλύψεως αλήθεια" (and this man is a University Chancellor?) What they need now is an interview with Father Theodore Zisis, to complete their set of 'experts'. That should work!.. Come to think of it, I already feel like kissing an icon.

Addendum: I would have added Mr V. Bakouros to the list of experts, who writes scientific articles about Orthodoxy for the illustrious publication 'Trito Mati', but last time we checked he was urgently 'needed' in Jerusalem.

Σήμερα όμως είμαι εδώ κλεισμένος στο γραφείο, ύστερα απο μια βροχερή μέρα που είναι. Ας είναι και Κυριακή. Πόση χαρά μούφερε το γράμμα σου, αδύνατο να σου το πω. Πίσω από τις γραμμές του βρήκα τον αναλλοίωτο ευγενικό εαυτό σου που τόσο εξετίμησα και αγάπησα από την Χάλκη. Αδούλωτες ή ανόρεχτες για δουλεία σκέψεις και ψυχές σαν τις δικές μας μπορούσαν να υπηρετήσουν τον Θεόν και τον πλησίον αλλοιώτικα: από τήν έδρα λόγου χάριν. Το διαισθανόμουνα από μαθητής. Θυμάσαι δεν ήθελα να γίνω παππάς. Ήθελα καθηγητής. Τώρα είμαστε μέσα στον χορό και θα χορέψουμε. Είναι άλλωστε αργά για οιαδήποτε αλλαγή. Απο τα 40 και ύστερα τέτοια αποτολμήματα είναι ανώφελα. Αν δεν ήτανε για τον κόσμο, τον οποίον μου φαίνεται πως με την δύναμη του Θεού κάπως τον υπηρετώ, θα είχα βγει από πολλού από τις τάξεις του κλήρου, που νομίζω πιο διεφθαρμένη και διεστραμμένη και μικρόψυχη τάξις δεν υπάρχει άλλη κοινωνική. Για την Χάλκη δεν το λέγω. Ήθελα πολύ να έβλεπα τους δικούς μου. Στην Ίμβρο όμως δεν ειμπορώ να πάγω. Να τους κάνω να έλθουν στην Πόλι, κατάκοιτοι καθώς είναι μόνο για μένα, θάταν τρομερή αξίωσις. Ύστερα ο Άγ. Δέρκων δεν με θέλει Αμερικανόν εκεί. Με θέλει Τούρκο. Αλλ' αν πάγω ως Τούρκος, τότε δεν μπορώ να υποστρέψω πια εδώ, και για πειραματισμούς δεν είναι καιρός. Ο Θυατείρων προσπάθησε να με κάνη και πάλι σχολάρχη, μα ευτυχώς φαίνεται ότι ο Πατριάρχης ακολουθεί την θεία βουλή για μένα. Ο Ιούνιος παρήλθεν και Μιλήτου δεν έγινα. Αργεί ακόμη ο θερισμός. Προχθές γιορτάσαμε τα 30 χρόνια του πατρός Αργυρίδου εις το Λύνν. Πήγα. Θαρθής στα δικά μου; Προσπάθησε να μείνης πιστός στον εαυτό σου.
